Board Duel (מלך הלוח) is made by Magmanet. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your data stays on your device, unless you choose to play games with friends online; the app also sends anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.
By default, only anonymous usage statistics (see below), which you can turn off. Board Duel has no sign-up, no advertising and no tracking. We never sell or share your data.
The other exception is the optional games with friends (below): if, and only if, you use them, the nickname you pick and the moves of those games are sent to the Magmanet server.
Your settings, your statistics (games won, drawn and lost per game and level) and an unfinished game against the computer or between two players on one phone are saved only on your device, in the app's private storage. They are removed when you uninstall the app.
The app's Copy backup feature (Settings → Your data) copies your data as text to your clipboard, so you can keep it somewhere you choose. Copy PGN / Copy game copies the moves of a game to your clipboard. Where you paste them is up to you; the app never uploads them.
"Games with friends" lets you play chess or checkers with a friend far away, one move at a time: you make a move, your friend answers whenever they can, and you can have several games going. Nothing is sent until you open this screen and pick a nickname.
Without games with friends, Board Duel works entirely offline, including the computer opponent, which runs on your phone; the only internet requests are the update check and the anonymous usage statistics below. With games with friends, it also connects to the Magmanet server to send your moves and load your games. The Android "internet" permission is needed for that and for any network connection, including the direct local-network connection between phones in Play nearby.
Once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo) — the request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed (site/Google Play); the server counts checks per app and version in aggregate, stores no identifiers and no IP address; if the server is unavailable the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). If a newer version exists, the app shows a notice and you choose whether to open the download link. You can turn this off in Settings ("Check for updates automatically").
An invite link opens a page on the Magmanet apps site (GitHub Pages) that offers to open the game in the app or to download it; the invite code is in the part of the link after "#", which browsers don't send to the site.
Board Duel sends anonymous usage statistics over HTTPS (a short ping once a day; usage events a few times a day at most, batched) to Magmanet's own server, hosted in the EU (Contabo), not to Google or any other third party. It sends the app name and version, your Android version, your phone's manufacturer and model (such as Samsung SM-S911B; never the name you gave the phone), your language, how the app was installed (from Google Play, the website or elsewhere), a random install ID, and anonymous usage events (which screens and features are used and for how long, for example that a chess game against the hard computer ended). The random ID is made by the app when it is installed; it is not a device identifier. No personal content is sent: no game moves and no games-with-friends nickname.
On the server the ID is hashed and no IP address is stored. Raw data is deleted after 400 days. It is used only to count active users and improve the app, never for advertising or profiling, and it is never sold or shared.
This is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"). Turning it off stops sending immediately and deletes the random ID and any unsent usage events from your phone.
When you play with a friend's phone nearby, the phones talk to each other directly over your local Wi-Fi network or hotspot, or over Bluetooth if you turn that option on. Each phone shares the display name and emoji avatar you choose, and the game itself: the moves, the clocks, draw offers and the result. Other phones that joined the same room to watch see the same game. This goes only between the phones in the room; it never passes through a server and Magmanet never receives it. There is no chat.
The app has no access to your contacts, photos, camera or microphone, and sends no notifications.
Board Duel is a general-audience game and is not directed at children. Games with friends are only for players who choose to use them.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version at the same address.
