Couples Quiz is made by Magmanet. The short version: your answers stay on your devices. The app also sends anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.
By default, only anonymous usage statistics (see below), which you can turn off. Couples Quiz has no sign-up, no accounts, no advertising and no tracking. We never sell or share your data.
Your settings (language, the last names you typed, the last pack and game length) are saved only on your device, in the app's private storage. Answers and results are not saved after you leave a game. Everything is removed when you uninstall the app.
Copy backup (Settings → Your data) copies your settings as text to your clipboard; where you paste it is up to you.
When you send a challenge, the app makes a short text code that contains the pack, the question numbers, the two names you typed and your answers and guesses. The code is scrambled and has a checksum, but it is not encrypted: anyone who has it can open it in the app. It goes only where you send it, using your phone's share sheet or clipboard. There is no server: we never receive codes. The result code you get back works the same way.
Share the result card opens your phone's share sheet with the card image (names, scores and title) and a short text with the app link; it goes only where you send it.
When you play on two phones, these go directly between the two phones, over the local Wi-Fi network or, if you turn Bluetooth on, a direct Bluetooth / Wi-Fi Direct link: the display name and emoji you choose, the questions of the game, your answers and guesses, and the result. Each phone's answers go to the host phone only and are shown on both phones when both have answered. Nothing goes to the internet or to us, and nothing is kept after the game.
The game works offline. The only internet requests are the update check and the anonymous usage statistics below.
Once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo) — the request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed; the server stores no identifiers and no IP address. If the server is unavailable the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). You can turn this off in Settings.
Couples Quiz sends anonymous usage statistics over HTTPS (a short ping once a day; usage events a few times a day at most, batched) to Magmanet's own server in the EU (Contabo), not to Google or any other third party. It sends the app name and version, your Android version, phone manufacturer and model (never the name you gave the phone), your language, how the app was installed, a random install ID made by the app, and anonymous usage events (which screens and modes are used, for how long, and the compatibility score of a finished game). Never names, answers or codes. On the server the ID is hashed and no IP address is stored; raw data is deleted after 400 days. It is used only to count active users and improve the app.
This is on by default. Turn it off in Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"); that stops sending immediately and deletes the random ID and any unsent events from your phone.
No camera, microphone, contacts, storage or notification permissions.
Couples Quiz is made for a general audience (teens and adults, and parents playing with their kids). It is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone. The questions are kind and contain no sexual content.
