Emergency Card keeps a personal emergency card on your phone for you and your family. It holds health information, so here is exactly what happens to it.

What the app stores, and where

The card details you type (name, date of birth, blood type, allergies, medical conditions, medicines, implants or devices, health fund, doctor, emergency contacts and notes) and your choices for the QR code are stored only in the app's private storage on your phone. We never receive them. There is no account and no server for your data.

Backups of your phone

• Android: the app turns off Android's automatic cloud backup, so the cards are not copied to a cloud backup. On newer Android versions a direct phone-to-phone transfer that you start may still copy them to your new phone.
• iPhone and iPad: apps can't fully stay out of the device backups you set up. If you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer, your cards can be part of that backup, under your own Apple account or computer.

When card details leave the phone

Only when you do one of these things:

• QR code. Whoever scans it can read and keep what you selected, and the phone that scans it may save it. A warning appears first.
• Wallet card (PDF). It goes to the app and person you choose, who can keep or forward it. A warning appears first.
• Calling a contact. The app hands the number to your phone's dialer.
• Backup. "Copy backup" in Settings copies all cards as text to the clipboard. Where you paste it is up to you. Other apps may be able to read the clipboard, so clear it afterwards.

What else leaves the phone

• Anonymous usage statistics help us improve the app: a random install ID, the app version, the system version, the language, which screens and features are used and for how long, and counts of error types. On Android they also include the phone's maker and model code. They never include names, phone numbers or any card detail, and a test in the app's code checks this. You can turn them off in Settings, which also deletes the ID and anything not yet sent.
• The daily update check (Android builds outside the app stores' own updates) asks our website whether a newer version exists.
• Links. The sources for emergency numbers and the phone makers' instructions open in your browser when you tap them.

Permissions

• Notifications: only if you turn on the review reminder. Its text never holds a name or a health detail.
• The app asks for no location, contacts, camera, microphone or storage permission.

What the app is not

The app only stores and shows what you typed, which may be out of date or incomplete. It gives no medical advice, first-aid instructions, diagnosis or drug guidance, and it is not a medical device. It can't show on a locked phone. Emergency numbers are listed with their source and the date they were checked; they can change.

Deleting your data

Delete a card in the app, or uninstall the app to delete everything it stored. We can't delete or recover cards for you because we never have them. Copies you shared or backed up are outside the app.

Children

The app is not directed at children. A parent may keep a card for a child on the parent's own phone.
