Privacy Policy — חידון המשפחה (Family Quiz)

Last updated: 2026-10-30 (version 1.0.3: Trivia night)

חידון המשפחה (Family Quiz) is made by Magmanet. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your data stays on your device. The app sends anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.

What we collect

Only anonymous usage statistics (see below), which you can turn off. The app has no sign-up, no advertising and no tracking. We never sell or share your data.

Where your data is stored

Your settings (language, sound and read-aloud switches, the names and avatars of the family members from the last game, the game options, the questions your family writes in the app, and the ids of the built-in questions played lately so they are not repeated too soon) are saved only on your device, in the app's private storage. When this phone hosts a game on several phones, the family's own questions are sent to the other phones over the local network only. "Read questions aloud" uses the phone's own text-to-speech voice. In the "who knows whom" game the answers to the questions are never saved: they exist only in the phone's memory during the game.

Trivia night (the second game) saves, on your device only and under its own storage entries: the last night's setup (team names and emoji, the rounds, the audience, timer, answer-choice and wager options), the "Who in our family…" questions and answers the host writes, the ids of the built-in trivia questions played lately, up to 20 past results (the date, team names and emoji and final scores), and one unfinished night so it can be continued (its teams, questions, scores, bets and where the show is). Answers that teams send from their own phones are not saved. Discarding the unfinished night or "Clear past nights" deletes them.

Everything is removed when you uninstall the app.

The app's Copy backup feature (Settings → Your data) copies your settings as text to your clipboard, so you can keep them somewhere you choose. Where you paste it is up to you; the app never uploads it.

Internet use

The game works offline. The only internet requests are the update check and the anonymous usage statistics below. The Android "internet" permission is needed for those and for any network connection, including the direct local-network connection between phones when you play on several phones.

Once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo) — the request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed (site/Google Play); the server counts checks per app and version in aggregate, stores no identifiers and no IP address; if the server is unavailable the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). If a newer version exists, the app shows a notice and you choose whether to open the download link. You can turn this off in Settings ("Check for updates automatically").

Anonymous usage statistics

The app sends anonymous usage statistics over HTTPS (a short ping once a day; usage events a few times a day at most, batched) to Magmanet's own server, hosted in the EU (Contabo), not to Google or any other third party. It sends the app name and version, your Android version, your phone's manufacturer and model, your language, how the app was installed (from Google Play, the website or elsewhere), a random install ID, and anonymous usage events (which screens and features are used and for how long, and how many players took part). The random ID is made by the app when it is installed; it is not a device identifier. No personal content is sent: no names, no answers and no guesses.

On the server the ID is hashed and no IP address is stored. Raw data is deleted after 400 days. It is used only to count active users and improve the app, never for advertising or profiling, and it is never sold or shared.

This is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"). Turning it off stops sending immediately and deletes the random ID and any unsent usage events from your phone.

Permissions

The app asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it. You can say no and still use the rest of the app.

No camera, microphone, contacts or storage permissions.

Playing on several phones: what is exchanged

When you play on several phones, these go directly between the phones in the room, and nowhere else: the display name and emoji avatar you choose, the game options, your answers about yourself (sent only to the host phone), your guesses, and the scores. The answer about a person is shown to everyone only at the reveal of the question about them. The results screen and the share text contain only names, scores and percentages, never the answers. Nothing goes to the internet or to us, and nothing is kept after the game.

In trivia night with team phones, the host phone sends the team names and emoji, the scores, the current question and its choices (the answer only once the host reveals it) and the timer; each team phone sends its team choice, its answers and its wager bet to the host phone only. Team phones keep nothing after the night.

Children

The app is made for a general audience and is played by whole families, including children with their parents. The questions are kind and family friendly (no appearance, money, romance or other sensitive topics). It has no ads, no chat and no accounts, and it collects no personal information.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version at the same address.
