What Does It Say? is made by Magmanet. It helps you understand official letters. Letters often contain personal details, so this policy explains exactly where your information goes. The short version: your letters stay on your phone. Nothing about a letter is sent anywhere unless you choose the optional AI feature with your own Anthropic key, and then it goes only to Anthropic.
By default, only anonymous usage statistics (see below), which you can turn off. We never receive your letters, the photos you take, the explanations, your API key, or your history. The app has no sign-up, no accounts and no advertising. We never sell or share your data.
The AI feature is off unless you add your own API key from Anthropic (console.anthropic.com). We do not provide, embed or proxy any key, and we never see yours.
api.anthropic.com, in the request header, and only when you ask for an AI explanation. It is never logged, never included in usage statistics, history or backups. You can delete it in Settings at any time. When you tap Share on a reply draft, the app opens your phone's share sheet with the text you see. Nothing is sent unless you choose an app and send it yourself.
The offline mode needs no internet. The app connects to the internet only for: (1) the optional AI requests to Anthropic described above, (2) the update check, and (3) the anonymous usage statistics.
Once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo) — the request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed (site/Google Play); the server counts checks per app and version in aggregate, stores no identifiers and no IP address; if the server is unavailable the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). If a newer version exists, the app shows a notice and you choose whether to open the download link. You can turn this off in Settings ("Check for updates automatically").
The app sends anonymous usage statistics over HTTPS (a short ping once a day; usage events a few times a day at most, batched) to Magmanet's own server, hosted in the EU (Contabo), not to Google, Anthropic or any other third party. It sends the app name and version, your Android version, your phone manufacturer and model (never the name you gave the phone), your language, how the app was installed, a random install ID, and anonymous usage events: which screens and features are used (for example "explained a letter offline", "set a reminder", or the type of an AI error such as "bad key") and for how long. It never includes letter text, photos, explanations, amounts, names, phone numbers, your API key or anything you typed. The random ID is made by the app when it is installed; it is not a device identifier.
On the server the ID is hashed and no IP address is stored. Raw data is deleted after 400 days. It is used only to count active users and improve the app, never for advertising or profiling, and it is never sold or shared.
This is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"). Turning it off stops sending immediately and deletes the random ID and any unsent usage events from your phone.
The app requests no location, microphone or contacts permissions.
Explanations, from the rules or from Claude, can be wrong or incomplete. They are not legal, tax or financial advice.
The app is intended for adults. It collects no personal information from anyone.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version at the same address.
