Magnifier is made by Magmanet. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: what the camera sees stays on your phone. There is no account. The app also sends anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.
We do not collect pictures, camera frames, your name, your email, your location or your contacts.
The app shows the camera's picture on your screen, magnified. It does not record video or sound.
When you press Freeze, the app takes one picture and keeps it in the phone's memory so you can read it. The temporary file the camera creates is deleted straight away. When you go back to the live view, the picture is gone.
A picture is kept only if you press Save: it then goes to your phone's photo gallery, where you manage it like any other photo.
A picture leaves your phone only if you press Share and choose where to send it. It then goes to the app you chose, under that app's own policy. We never receive it.
Your settings (zoom, colour mode, light, brightness, language) are kept on your phone only. Uninstalling the app deletes them. Saved pictures stay in your gallery until you delete them.
Magnifying works entirely offline. The only internet requests are the anonymous usage statistics below and, on Android, the update check. On iPhone and iPad there is no update check: the App Store handles updates.
On Android, once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo). The request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed (site/Google Play). The server counts checks per app and version in aggregate and stores no identifiers and no IP address. If the server is unavailable, the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). If a newer version exists, the app shows a notice and you choose whether to open the download link. You can turn this off in Settings ("Check for updates automatically").
Magnifier sends anonymous usage statistics over HTTPS (a short ping once a day; usage events a few times a day at most, batched) to Magmanet's own server, hosted in the EU (Contabo), not to Google or any other third party. It sends the app name and version, your operating-system version (Android or iOS), your language, how the app was installed (on Android: from Google Play, the website or elsewhere; on iPhone and iPad: the App Store or TestFlight), a random install ID, anonymous usage events (which screens are used, for how long, and how many times Freeze, Save and Share were pressed) and counts of errors by type (a short code for the kind of error, never a message or any content). On Android it also sends your phone's manufacturer and model (never the name you gave the phone); on iPhone and iPad it does not send the device model. Pictures, camera frames and anything shown in them are never sent. The random ID is made by the app when it is installed; it is not a device identifier.
On the server the ID is hashed and no IP address is stored. Raw data is deleted after 400 days. It is used only to count active users and improve the app, never for advertising or profiling, and it is never sold or shared.
This is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"); doing so also deletes the random ID from your phone. Afterwards, nothing is sent.
The app requests no location, microphone, contacts or notification permissions.
Magnifier is a reading aid. It is not a medical device and does not treat or correct vision. A magnified label can still be misread, so please confirm medicine doses with your pharmacist.
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
