Meme Maker is made by Magmanet. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your photos and your memes stay on your device. The app also sends anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.
By default, only anonymous usage statistics (see below), which you can turn off. Meme Maker has no sign-up, no accounts, no advertising and no tracking. We never sell or share your data.
When you choose "From my photo" or "Camera", the phone's own photo picker or camera app opens and you pick or take one photo. The app keeps a copy of that photo only in its private folder on your device, so your draft can be opened again. Photos are never uploaded, never analysed and never sent anywhere. A photo is deleted from the app's folder when you delete the last draft and the last saved meme that use it, and all photos are removed when you uninstall the app.
Your drafts (the texts you type, sticker and layout choices, and which photo each panel uses) and your settings (language, watermark, last font) are saved only on your device, in the app's private storage. They are removed when you uninstall the app.
My memes: when you tap "Save to My memes", the finished picture (PNG) is kept in the app's private folder on your device, and the list of saved memes (with each meme's texts and layout, so you can edit it again) in the app's private storage. You can delete one meme in the viewer or all of them in Settings; they are also removed when you uninstall the app.
Save to phone: when you tap "Save to phone", the picture is added to your phone's photo gallery (in a "Meme Maker" album). It is a normal photo on your phone from then on; the app does not read your gallery.
The app's Copy backup feature (Settings → Your data) copies your drafts, the list of saved memes and your settings as text to your clipboard (without the photos and pictures themselves), so you can keep it somewhere you choose. Where you paste it is up to you; the app never uploads it.
When you tap "Share image", the app creates the picture on your phone and opens your phone's share sheet with it and a short text with a link to the app's page. By default the picture has a small "Meme Maker" mark in the corner; you can turn it off. Nothing is sent unless you choose an app and send it yourself.
Making memes works entirely offline. The only internet requests are the update check and the anonymous usage statistics below.
Once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo) — the request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed (site/Google Play); the server counts checks per app and version in aggregate, stores no identifiers and no IP address; if the server is unavailable the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). If a newer version exists, the app shows a notice and you choose whether to open the download link. You can turn this off in Settings ("Check for updates automatically").
Meme Maker sends anonymous usage statistics over HTTPS (a short ping once a day; usage events a few times a day at most, batched) to Magmanet's own server, hosted in the EU (Contabo), not to Google or any other third party. It sends the app name and version, your Android version, your phone manufacturer and model (never the name you gave the phone), your language, how the app was installed (from Google Play, the website or elsewhere), a random install ID, and anonymous usage events (which screens, templates and features are used and for how long — never your photos, your texts or your memes). The random ID is made by the app when it is installed; it is not a device identifier. No personal content is sent.
On the server the ID is hashed and no IP address is stored. Raw data is deleted after 400 days. It is used only to count active users and improve the app, never for advertising or profiling, and it is never sold or shared.
This is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"). Turning it off stops sending immediately and deletes the random ID and any unsent usage events from your phone.
Photos are chosen with the system photo picker and taken with the phone's camera app, so the app needs no storage, media or camera permission on Android. On iPhone, iOS asks for access to your photo library or camera the first time you use them; the photos stay on your phone. The app requests no location, microphone or contacts permissions.
Meme Maker is a general-audience app. It collects no personal information from anyone.
The bundled fonts (Rubik, Heebo, Assistant, Secular One and Anton) are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1; the licence files ship with the app.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version at the same address.
