Scan & Sign turns photos of documents into PDFs, lets you place a hand-drawn signature, a date or short text on them,
and merges and shrinks PDFs. Your documents are processed and kept on your phone.
What the app stores, and where
- Documents: photos, imported PDFs and pictures, finished pages, and their names, are stored only in the app's private
storage on your phone.
- Signatures you draw are stored only in the app's private storage, as pictures. Typed text and dates are stored with
the page they're on.
- Passwords of locked PDFs are used once to open the file and are never saved. The app keeps an unlocked copy of that
file in its private storage.
- Settings (language, starting clean-up) are stored on your phone.
Documents and signatures are never sent to us. The app has no account and no server for documents. On Android they are
also excluded from Google's automatic app backup. On iPhone, a backup of the whole device that you make to iCloud or a
computer may include the app's files, like those of other apps.
Camera and pictures
- The camera opens only when you choose to scan or photograph. On Android the app holds no camera or storage permission:
the camera, document scanner, photo picker and file picker are system screens, and the app sees only what you choose. On
iPhone the system asks for camera access the first time you scan.
- Temporary copies from the camera, scanner and pickers are removed once a page is saved.
What leaves the phone
- What you share or save. A PDF goes only to the app, person or place you choose.
- Anonymous usage statistics (features used, simple counters such as page counts, and counts of error types, with a
random install ID) help us improve the app. They never include file names, typed text, pictures or signatures. You can
turn them off in Settings.
- The daily update check (Android) asks our website whether a newer version exists.
- Copy backup in Settings copies the document list and settings as text to the clipboard (not the pages); where you
paste it is up to you.
Google's document scanner (Android)
The option "The phone's document scanner" uses Google's ML Kit document scanner, which runs inside Google Play services.
Google says the scanning flow works on the device, so your pictures aren't uploaded by it. Its components may be
downloaded through Google Play services.
Google's ML Kit disclosure says ML Kit features collect device information, application information, identifiers,
performance metrics, API configuration, input and output sizes, version, event type and error codes, for diagnostics and
usage analytics, encrypted in transit and not transferred to third parties. That page doesn't name the document scanner
specifically, so we treat it as applying. We don't receive this data, and we know of no switch to turn it off. To avoid it,
use "Photo with manual corners", the gallery or a file instead: those don't use ML Kit.

On iPhone the scanner is Apple's own, which runs on the device.
Deleting your data
Delete a page or document in the app, or use "Delete all documents and signatures" in Settings. Uninstalling the app deletes
everything it stored. PDFs you already shared or saved elsewhere are not affected.
A note on signatures
A signature in this app is a picture placed on the page. It is not a certified electronic signature and doesn't prove who
signed.
Children
The app is not directed at children.
