TabMaster is made by Magmanet. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your data stays on your device; the app only sends anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.
TabMaster has no accounts, no advertising and no tracking. The only thing we collect is anonymous usage statistics (see below), which you can turn off. Apart from that, on Android it goes online only for the update check described under Play nearby below (the Magmanet server, with GitHub Pages as a fallback). On iPhone and iPad there is no update check; updates come from the App Store. We never see, sell or share your data.
Your settings, practice history, set lists, imported pieces and the tabs you write are saved only on your device, in the app's private storage. They are removed when you uninstall the app.
The app's Copy backup feature (Settings → Your data) copies your settings, history and set lists as text to your clipboard, so you can keep them somewhere you choose. Where you paste it is up to you; the app never uploads it.
You can import .gp3, .gp4, .gp5, MusicXML and text-tab files and export your pieces (for example as MusicXML, text tab or PDF). TabMaster uses the system's own file picker for this (on Android and on iPhone and iPad), so it only sees the single file you choose, and it needs no storage permission. Imported files are copied into the app's private storage and are never uploaded. When you tap Share, the file goes to the app you pick in the system share sheet.
The microphone is used only while you play along with the app listening: play-along with listening on, wait mode, the learn-mode bar checks and a Play nearby duel. The sound is analysed on your device in real time to detect the notes and chords you play. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. The system asks for the permission the first time you turn listening on; if you say no, playback, the editor and everything else still work.
Play nearby lets you jam or duel with friends whose phones are in the same room. Phones connect directly to each other over your local Wi-Fi network or, on Android only and only if you turn on the Bluetooth switch in the Play nearby lobby (off by default), over Bluetooth using Google's Nearby Connections. On iPhone and iPad players join with a code; Bluetooth and location are never used or asked for. Nothing goes through the internet or to us.
Separately, on Android only, for the update check: once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo) — the request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed (site/Google Play); the server counts checks per app and version in aggregate, stores no identifiers and no IP address; if the server is unavailable the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). If a newer version exists, the app shows a notice and you choose whether to open the download link. You can turn this off in Settings ("Check for updates automatically").
TabMaster sends anonymous usage statistics over HTTPS (a short ping once a day; usage events a few times a day at most, batched) to Magmanet's own server, hosted in the EU (Contabo), not to Google or any other third party. It sends the app name and version, your system version (Android or iOS), on Android your phone's manufacturer and model (such as Samsung SM-S911B; never the name you gave the phone; iPhone and iPad builds send no device model), your language, how the app was installed (from Google Play, the App Store, TestFlight, the website or elsewhere), a random install ID, anonymous usage events (which screens and features are used and for how long) and counts of errors by type (a short code, no message or content). The random ID is made by the app when it is installed; it is not a device identifier. No personal content is sent.
On the server the ID is hashed and no IP address is stored. Raw data is deleted after 400 days. It is used only to count active users and improve the app, never for advertising or profiling, and it is never sold or shared.
This is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"). Turning it off stops sending immediately and deletes the random ID and any unsent usage events from your phone.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version at the same address.
