Privacy Policy — Treasure Hunt (ציד אוצרות)

Last updated: 2026-10-19

Treasure Hunt is made by Magmanet. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your data stays on your device.

What we collect

We don't collect anything. Treasure Hunt has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it collects no usage statistics. We never see, sell or share your data.

Where your data is stored

The hunts you set up (stations, your own clues, hiding places) and a hunt in progress on one phone are saved only on your device, in the app's private storage. They are removed when you uninstall the app.

The app's Copy backup feature (Settings → Your data, behind the parental gate) copies your data as text to your clipboard, so you can keep it somewhere you choose. Where you paste it is up to you; the app never uploads it.

Camera

The camera is used only to scan the QR codes on the station cards during a hunt. Android asks for permission the first time a team opens the scanner. The camera picture is read on the phone to find the code and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. If you don't allow the camera, teams can type the 4-digit code printed on each card instead.

Play nearby: what is exchanged

When teams play on their own phones, the phones talk to each other directly on the same Wi-Fi network (or, only if you turn it on, over a direct Bluetooth/Wi-Fi link). These go between the phones in the game and nowhere else: the hunt itself (stations, clues and codes, sent from the grown-up's phone), each team's name and picture, and each team's progress (cards found, points, hints, time). Nothing goes to the internet or to us, and nothing is kept after the game except the hunts on the grown-up's phone.

Internet use

Treasure Hunt doesn't need the internet. Android's "internet" permission is required for any network connection, including the direct local-network connection between phones in Play nearby.

The only time the app goes online is the update check. Once a day the app checks for a newer version by asking the Magmanet server (EU, Contabo) — the request contains only the app name, its version number and how it was installed (site/Google Play); the server counts checks per app and version in aggregate, stores no identifiers and no IP address; if the server is unavailable the app downloads the public version file from GitHub Pages instead (GitHub may see your IP address). The check carries no identifiers and nothing about your child or your device. If a newer version exists, the app shows a notice and a grown-up chooses whether to open the download link (behind the parental gate). You can turn this off in Settings ("Check for updates automatically").

Permissions

It requests no microphone, contacts or storage access.

Children

Treasure Hunt is designed for children and families. It contains no ads, no in-app purchases, no accounts, no leaderboards, no chat and no links out of the app (except the update download link, which is behind a parental gate), and it collects no personal information from anyone, including children. Settings and printing are behind a parental gate. A team name typed by the kids is seen only by the other phones in the same local game.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version at the same address.
