Melody to Notes writes down the tune you sing.

Sing, hum, whistle or play one melody into the microphone (or open an audio file you own), and the app gives it back as real sheet music, note names and a piano roll. Great for tunes you make up, childhood songs you want to play, and music students checking themselves.

• Record with a live pitch meter: the note name in big letters, how many cents sharp or flat, and a pitch trail.
• Optional count-in and metronome. The clicks never end up in your notes.
• Open your own files: WAV always, and MP3, M4A and AAC through your phone's own decoder.
• A transcription engine that runs entirely on the phone: probabilistic pitch tracking (pYIN) with smoothing, splitting of repeated notes, octave-error correction, tolerance for vibrato and slides, and detection of a slightly sharp or flat singer.
• Rhythm: tempo detection that follows a singer who speeds up, 3/4 or 4/4, and snapping to eighths, sixteenths or triplets.
• Key detection with correct sharps and flats.
• Drawn notation: treble or bass clef, key signature, beams, dots, ties and rests, with note names underneath in Do Re Mi or C D E.
• Edit: tap a note to change its pitch or length, split, merge, delete or turn it into a rest. Undo and redo.
• Transpose, and views for B♭, E♭, F and guitar players.
• Playback as piano, flute, marimba, organ or voice at any speed, and A/B against your original recording.
• Practice: the app plays a phrase, you sing it back, and the notes turn green or red.
• Export MusicXML (MuseScore and other notation programs), MIDI, PDF and an image, or send the note names as text.

Good to know: the app writes down ONE melody line — a voice, a whistle or a single instrument. It does not pull a melody out of a full band recording and does not detect chords. For chords, try PlayCord.

Everything happens on your phone: no server, no account, no ads. Recordings are kept only if you allow it. The demo tunes are public domain or original.

Polish and stability: a whole staff line in sing-along, clear messages when no melody is heard or a file is broken, a button to the mic settings, and defaults in Settings
