Games Around the World: seven traditional board games that people have played for hundreds and thousands of years, in Africa, Asia and Europe. For kids from 6 and the whole family.

The games

• Mancala: sow seeds in the pits and fill your store. Kalah, short Kalah, and Oware from West Africa.
• Flip discs: trap a line of discs and flip it to your colour. An 8×8 board or a small 6×6 one.
• Nine men's morris: three in a row takes one of your opponent's pieces. One of Europe's oldest games.
• Star halma: hop your marbles across to the far corner, with two, three, four or six players.
• Go: surround stones and space. Capture go for beginners, and the full game on 9×9 or 13×13.
• Fox and geese: 13 geese try to trap a sly fox.
• Surakarta from Java: capture by riding the loops in the corners.

Learning is fun

• A "Where does it come from?" card for every game.
• An animated lesson that shows the rules on the board.
• Glowing dots show where you can move, and a hint button helps when you are stuck.

Play your way

• Against the computer at three levels, with undo.
• Two players on one phone.
• Several phones nearby on the same Wi-Fi or hotspot, with no internet. If someone drops out, the computer plays for them until they are back.
• An unfinished game is saved, so you can carry on later.
